A hearing has been set to determine if Leslie Ivan Roderick Black, the man who viciously attacked Prince Albert woman Marlene Bird, should be deemed a dangerous offender.
Black appeared on Friday in Prince Albert provincial court, where his dangerous offender hearing was scheduled for March 2017. Earlier this year, a judge denied Black’s attempt to expunge his guilty plea to attempted murder.
He pleaded guilty to the charge in April 2015, at which time a charge of aggravated sexual assault was stayed.
Black was arrested and charged in June 2014 after Bird, who was 47 years old at the time, was found badly beaten and burned in a downtown Prince Albert parking lot. Her legs had to be amputated and her face required reconstructive surgery.
If Black is designated a dangerous offender, he could receive an indeterminate prison sentence.
