In a Saskatoon provincial courtroom, John Clint Tinker sat with his elbows on his knees and his head between his hands — a tattoo of the word “family” clearly visible across his jaw — as he was sentenced to 11 years in prison for manslaughter.

The 21-year-old also received a seven-year concurrent sentence for breaking and entering to commit robbery after pleading guilty to both charges in connection with the death of 21-year-old Gilbert McCallum.

McCallum’s body was found in a field near Rosthern on June 3, 2016, about two months after he went missing from Prince Albert, according to RCMP.

The reasons for the sentence delivered during Wednesday’s decision and the facts of the case presented during Tinker’s sentencing hearing last month are banned from publication until the conclusion of his co-accused’s trials.

Jonathon Tremblay, 23, Korena Jo-Lynne Bonneau, 36, and Raymond Roberts, 30, have been committed to stand trial on first-degree murder charges at Saskatoon Court of Queen’s Bench.

Court information shows a man named Dustin Joshua Whitedeer is also charged with accessory to murder in connection with McCallum’s death. His charge was laid in October 2018, seven months after Bonneau, Tremblay and Roberts were charged.

An RCMP news release states the initial arrests were made after an “extensive investigation” involving the RCMP major crimes unit north, forensic identification section, Rosthern RCMP and Prince Albert police.
