Less than two months after Colin Sutherland was found dead in his downtown Saskatoon apartment suite, preliminary hearing dates have been set for the woman accused of killing him.
The hearing for Sheritta Kahpeaysewat, 30, is scheduled to take place in Saskatoon provincial court in October and November. It will determine if there is enough evidence for the case to proceed to trial.
Sutherland, 54, was a recently-retired educator when he died in his apartment in the 200 block of Fifth Avenue North on April 1. Kahpeaysewat is charged with second-degree murder. She was his girlfriend at the time.
Kahpeaysewat retained defence lawyer Leslie Sullivan, who appeared in court on Tuesday to set the preliminary hearing dates.
During her first two court appearances, the accused proclaimed her innocence and told court “I have a lot to defend myself with.”
According to an alumni website, Kahpeaysewat attended Sakewew High School in North Battleford. Sutherland helped establish the school and worked there as principal.
