A preliminary hearing is underway for Mark McMahon Donlevy, the Saskatoon man accused of inappropriately touching women while he was practicing massage therapy.
Donlevy, 49, is facing 11 charges of sexual assault between 2003 and 2016. The hearing will determine if there is enough evidence to proceed with a trial.
According to police, Donlevy was charged in November 2016 after two women reported that he touched them inappropriately during separate massage appointments in October 2013 and July 2016. They made the reports after seeing online posts from other women alleging similar experiences, police said.
Nine more female clients came forward when police went public with Donlevy’s initial charges.
Evidence heard at the preliminary hearing is banned from publication to ensure the accused has the right to a fair trial.
Donlevy is currently facing trial at Saskatoon Court of Queen’s Bench on one count of sexual assault stemming from 2004. It is unrelated to his work as a massage therapist.
The Massage Therapist Association of Saskatchewan confirmed Donlevy was a registered massage therapist at the time of the alleged incidents. He operated MD Muscle Therapy out of his home in the 1200 block of Main Street, where the initial complainants said the assaults took place.
Donlevy remains out of custody on bail.
