A woman who caused a crash that killed a family of four near Saskatoon is scheduled to be sentenced Wednesday in a court appearance that is sure to be heart-wrenching.
Catherine Loye McKay, 49, pleaded guilty to four counts of impaired driving causing death last month. She was trying to cross Highway 11 at Wanuskewin Road on Jan. 3 when she struck a vehicle carrying Jordan Van De Vorst, 34, his wife Chanda, 33, and their two children: five-year-old Kamryn and two-year-old Miguire.

Jordan and Chanda died at the scene of the crash. Their children died a short time later in hospital.
Lawyers confirmed McKay’s sentencing will go ahead Wednesday, but would not say what kind of sentence is in the cards.
After McKay entered guilty pleas in June, defence lawyer Leslie Sullivan said her client intended to plead guilty from the beginning, adding it takes some time for lawyers to review disclosure before proceeding to that point.
Jordan’s father, Lou Van De Vorst, read a prepared statement outside Saskatoon provincial court following one of McKay’s court appearances, just days after the fatal crash. He said his family hopes justice will be served.
