Following a preliminary hearing in Saskatoon provincial court this week, Brandin Cole Brick has been committed to stand trial in connection with the death of 28-year-old James Chaisson.
Chaisson was found dead in the 100 block of Avenue P South between 21st Street and 22nd Street on Feb. 14, 2018. His death was Saskatoon’s second homicide of the year, and police said they don’t believe it is random in nature.
Brick, 27, was arrested in the Massey Place neighbourhood three days after a warrant was issued, with police warning Brick was considered armed and dangerous. He is charged with first-degree murder, kidnapping, possession of a firearm while prohibited and breaching a recognizance.
The case details presented at the preliminary hearing, which determines if there is sufficient evidence to proceed to trial, are banned from publication.
It will take some time before trial dates are set at Saskatoon Court of Queen’s Bench.
Saskatoon recorded eight homicides in 2018.
