Travis Matthew Miles, described as a “hang around” member of the Fallen Saints Motorcycle Club, will serve a four-year sentence in a federal penitentiary after 14 ounces of methamphetamine was found in his apartment during the Project Forseti drug raids in Saskatoon.

Miles, 27, was sentenced Monday at Saskatoon Court of Queen’s Bench after previously pleading guilty to possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking. Justice Mona Dovell accepted the jointly-submitted sentence proposed by the Crown and defence.

According to the Crown, Miles was holding the drugs for another person accused in Project Forseti, the 15-month drug and weapon investigation that ended with multiple searches and arrests on Jan. 14, 2015. Miles was a courier for that person and his apartment was being used as a “stash house,” prosecutor Lynn Hintz said.

The approximate value of the methamphetamine was $28,000 at the ounce level and $40,o00 at the gram level, court heard.

In reaching the joint-submission, Hintz said they took into account that “This is a very serious drug and a very significant quantity of it.” However, she said factors such as Miles pleading guilty and not having a criminal record also helped form the proposed sentence.

In other trafficking cases, six ounces of meth has led to six years in prison, Hintz pointed out.

Defence lawyer Morris Bodnar told court his client doesn’t use meth and doesn’t have any other drug problems. Miles wants to pick up a trade while serving his federal sentence and plans to either further his education or move away upon his release, Bodnar said.

Project Forseti targeted the Hells Angels and Fallen Saints motorcycle clubs, resulting in seven members being charged with criminal organization offences. Some members are accused of assaulting Miles for the benefit of the Fallen Saints Motorcycle Club, named as a “criminal organization.”
